Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Sandlot over other camps?
  • Our coaches include licensed teachers, with extensive experience both teaching and coaching youth sports!!!
  • Every staff member is hand selected and they will put THEIR WHOLE HEART into YOUR kids!
  • We LOVE what we do and want EVERYONE to have an enjoyable, positive, life-changing experience!!!
  • There is no better joy in sports than just playing! We want to hear laughter and excitement! We want kids to know it is okay to make a mistake, even when giving full effort, just learn from it and keep going! We will have those conversations daily. No one at camp is going pro tomorrow, but today we are meant to enjoy, and be thankful for, the abilities and opportunities placed in front of us!

How do you transport the kids for field trips?
  • We hire Westerville City Schools transportation buses/drivers for trips to and from off-site locations.
  • Campers ride the bus with their week's teammates and coaches.

What is the tuition/registration cost for each week of camp?
  • $230 per camper, per week --> students aged 8 - 13 years old are welcome to participate!!!
    • When the Kona Ice truck comes during lunch on Friday, a Klassic shaved ice is included for each camper!
      • Also, IF campers have a plastic Kona Ice cup (Color Changing or Kowabunga, from a previous purchase) they may bring it to receive a "refill" and enjoy the larger size, instead of the provided Klassic (paper) cup.
  • If needed, Early Drop-off is an extra $25 per camper, per week --> begins at 8:00 AM (regular drop-off begins at 9:00 AM).

What is your cancellation policy?
  • $50/camper/week is non-refundable. Cancellation within 28 days of camp beginning will result in the forfeit of all fees paid up to that point in time.
    • Those who choose to pay in full are eligible for refund of their fees, minus $50/camper/week, up to 28 days prior to the week(s) in which you register.
    • For those who choose to only pay a minimum deposit of $50/camper/week at the time of registration, the deposit is non-refundable, and the remaining account balance will be automatically charged 28 days prior to the week(s) in which you register, using the original method of payment on file. Once the balance has been charged, cancellation of registration will result in the forfeit of all fees paid up to that point in time.

Do we have to sign-up for every week offered?
  • No, but some parents prefer to sign-up for as many weeks as possible because Sandlot Camps are comparable in price, but WAY MORE FUN and EDUCATIONAL than other childcare options!

Do you offer a discount for families with multiple siblings attending?
  • Sorry, no. Many of our expenses (field trips, transportation, t-shirts, awards, etc.) are charged per camper so, rather than over-pricing our camp and offering discounts / specials, we have priced our camp as low as possible in an effort to be as affordable as possible for families.

How does the waitlist work?
  • For those who add themselves to the list, there is no charge/obligation to take a spot if it becomes available. However, unfortunately, there is no way of knowing if/when spots will open up to people on the waitlist, but they will be automatically notified if/when spots do open. That being said, in the past we have had people need to cancel for various reasons: changes in vacation plans, job relocation, sports schedule conflicts, summer school, etc. And, the closer we get to June, those ahead of you on the waitlist may have already made alternate plans and pass on an opening that comes to them -- so you may end up being 20+ spots deep on the waitlist and get the first opening because others ahead of you are no longer able to participate. Worth a shot?!?!

Do the activities change from week to week?
  • Simple answer: The basic format is the same each week -- some activities repeat, others change.
  • Detailed answer: We've found a recipe that the campers seem to love, so why change it?  That being said, we have a wide variety of games in our repertoire, so plans are adjusted to meet the needs of the participants each week -- that is a benefit of being a camp that is NOT focused on one sport/activity!  Plus, since the participants and teams change each week, playing the same game will have a new feel, new outcome, and new teachable moments each time!

What sports/games will be involved?
  • We design games/activities which help level the playing field and prove every camper's value (brains and/or brawn) to their team, such as:
    • Galaxy Ball, Capture the Critter, Four Corners, Dodgeball, Mission Impossible, Cardio Kickball, Gladiator, Rock/Paper/Scissor Football, Space Invaders, Mouse Trap, Silent Seat Ball, Tip, Highlighter Football, Head or Tails Tag, Battle Royale, and many more team-building activities/challenges.
  • These activities are selected because they are engaging to all ages and ability levels, not near as polarizing as traditional sports, and produce opportunities to challenge/grow new skills while showing their strengths!

There is a HUGE difference in physical ability level with kids from 8 - 13 years old, won't the big kids just dominate everything?
  • Typically, each team will be split into two divisions for developmentally appropriate competitions!
  • Kids will compete in challenges and games within their own division, but everyone on the team can earn points.
  • At the end of the challenge/game, both divisions’ points are added together for the team total.
  • We do this so the older kids can learn to be leaders and take the younger kids under their wing.
  • It also helps teach that everyone should be valued and because everyone can help the team in some way.
  • The younger kids are given the the opportunity to look up to the older kids and learn from them -- it also means the world to a younger kid when the older kids are cheering them on and supporting them.
  • Individuals can earn points for exemplary character/sportsmanship -- added to the team’s total at the end of the day (worth WAY MORE than the points for winning a game) and points system is cumulative for the week!
  • On Monday, we let the kids pick their groups of friends/siblings, this way they are guaranteed to be with at least those kids, which should help ease any shy feelings.
